Turris Omnia NG Introduced with OpenWRT-Derived OS, Wi-Fi 7, and 10 Gbps Networking

Nov 3, 2025 — by Giorgio Mendoza 900 views

CZ.NIC has launched the Turris Omnia NG router, described as a new open-source device focused on security, performance, and modularity. It features a quad-core processor, Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, and M.2-based expandability, targeting users who require a long-lasting and adaptable networking platform.

The Omnia NG is powered by a quad-core ARMv8 processor operating at 2.2 GHz and integrates 8 GB of onboard eMMC storage along with an NVMe slot for expansion. The hardware platform supports up to 10 Gbps networking through one SFP+ WAN port and provides additional 2.5 Gbps LAN interfaces.

The upgraded CPU architecture and faster network interfaces represent a significant improvement over the previous Omnia Wi-Fi 6 model, which relied on a dual-core 1.6 GHz ARMv7 processor and 1 Gbps Ethernet connections.

It also adds Wi-Fi 7 capability and introduces a modular approach to wireless connectivity, replacing the fixed radio module with an M.2 card that can be upgraded as new standards emerge.

Additional expansion options include unpopulated M.2 slots and USB 3.0 ports. The router features a color IPS display for system information and uses passive cooling to maintain silent operation during heavy network loads.

Security remains a central focus of the Turris Omnia NG. The router incorporates the adaptive firewall system Turris Sentinel, which analyzes network activity across the global Turris ecosystem to identify and mitigate threats in real time.

This distributed protection model enables automatic updates and continuous monitoring without requiring user intervention, according to the official announcement.

According to the product brief, the Turris Omnia NG runs Turris OS, a Linux-based operating system derived from OpenWRT. It supports LXC containerization, automatic updates, and a browser-based interface that allows users to install and manage their preferred Linux distributions directly on the device.

Further Information

The Turris Omnia NG is listed at €453.57 excluding VAT (approximately €548.90 including VAT) on the Discomp store at the time of writing.
