DFI’s rugged “VC230-BT” in-vehicle computer is equipped with an Intel Bay Trail SoC with 2x GbE, 5x USB, and 3x serial ports plus 3x mini-PCIe slots for storage and wireless add-ons.

DFI has launched a rugged embedded computer for in-vehicle and fleet management applications. The fanless VC230-BT defaults to Windows 7, 8, 8.1, WES7, or WES8, but offers Linux on request. Windows 10 will soon be another on-request option.

The VC230-BT ships with a quad-core Intel Atom E3845 or dual-core Atom E3825 supported with 2GB or 4GB DDR3L with optional ECC RAM. A microSD slot and up to 32GB eMMC are available on request. Dual simultaneous display support is enabled via HD-ready HDMI and up to 2560 x 1600-pixel VGA ports.

For expansion, you get 2x full-size mini-PCIe slots: one with optional mSATA MLC cards from 8GB to 64GB and the other with PCIe/USB/3G/GPRS/CAN-Bus. A half-size mini-PCIe slot offers PCIe/USB/LPC support, and there’s a SIM slot, 3x WiFi antenna holes, and an optional WiFi kit.

A watchdog timer and 2x LEDs are available, and wall, VESA, and DIN-Rail mounting are available on request.

The 180 x 121.2 x 33mm, 800-gram system supports -20 to 60°C temperatures and protects against vibration per MIL-STD 810G 514.5C-II and E13. Shock resistance is listed as half sine wave 15G, 11ms, 3 shock per axis.
