Tiny µQseven module runs Android and Linux on i.MX6

Qseven co-founder Congatec has just unveiled its first COM built to the 70 x 40mm “µQseven” footprint option introduced by Qseven v2.0 nearly three years ago.

Despite being among the three principal founders of the Qseven Consortium back in 2008, Congatec has just now gotten around to introducing a module that exploits Qseven v2.0’s 70 x 40mm “µQseven” form factor option that was introduced nearly three years ago.

The Congatec “Conga-UMX6” module follows in the footsteps of ARM-based µQseven COMs from Seco, Theobroma, and E-Con, as well an Intel Atom-based µQseven module from Seco.

The Conga-UMX6 is essentially a shrunken version of the company’s similarly i.MX6-based, full-sized (70 x 70mm) Conga-QMX6 Qseven COM. The two are pictured to scale, below.

Whereas the larger Conga-QMX6 supports Freescale’s i.MX6 Solo, Dual, Quad, and DualLite SoC models, the UMX6 is limited to the Dual and DualLite (both dual-core) SoCs. RAM is also reduced, to 1GB on the UMX6 from the 2GB available on its larger sibling. The smaller, UMX6 module loses the QMX6’s on-board camera interface, debug serial port, and Android buttons interface, but other than that, the functions implemented over its 230-finger MXM edgecard connector appear to be essentially identical to those of the fullsized board.

Like the larger Conga-QMX6, the Conga-UMX6 can be ordered rated for either “commercial” (0 to 60°C) and “industrial” (-40 to 85°C) temperature range operation. Additionally, the module is supported by BSPs for “Android and all common Linux distributions as well as Windows Embedded Compact 7,” says Congatec. All BSPs are said to be available for download from the company’s GIT-server.


Congatec says it’s targeting the Conga-UMX6 at applications including “traffic systems, in-vehicle systems, small size PLCs, parking ticket machines, and any other embedded or IoT application that requires a space-saving design and low power consumption.”

Specifications listed for the Conga-UMX6 include:
