Sleek Mini-ITX industrial PCs come in four Intel flavors
Oct 6, 2014 — by Eric Brown 2,725 viewsLogic Supply unveiled four Ubuntu-ready, Mini-ITX industrial PCs based on Intel Celeron (Bay Trail and Ivy Bridge) and Core (Haswell-ULT and Haswell) CPUs.
Do aesthetics matter on the factory floor? Logic Supply, which has been selling Ubuntu Linux ready embedded computers for years, has answered with a resounding yes with a new line of ML400G embedded PCs. The four new systems are the “smallest full-size Mini-ITX systems” ever built by the company, and offer a “sleek, exciting aesthetic with ultra-reliable, fanless and ventless engineering,” says Logic Supply.

Assuming you like your computers painted orange — and why not? — the systems are indeed more stylish than previous Logic Supply computers such as the circa-2009 SolidLogic GS-L10, or even homelier AU912 from 2011. However, we’re still rather fond of Logic’s red Nuvo-1003B that arrived the same year, which featured a curved heatsink design.
Each of the first four ML400G systems offer different Intel processors. They all support Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Linux in 32- and 64-bit versions, as well as a variety of Windows packages. Each is based on Mini-ITX form-factor motherboards, and measures 202 x 196 x 57mm (7.95 x 7.71 x 2.24-inches).

The system offer a variety of 802.11n and Bluetooth wireless options, as well as multiple external antenna varieties. They provide mounting options including wall-mounting, VESA, and DIN Rail 200mm. Storage options include SSDs ranging from 43GB to 250GB.

The systems are also touted for their “advanced EMI protection.” Custom versions and OEM services are also available. Those who aren’t ready for colorizing the workplace can also opt for good old black — no extra charge.
Here’s a quick rundown on all four systems. Links to product pages with full data sheets may be found at the end of the story.
ML400G-10
The ML400G-10 is aimed at light industrial, workstation, digital signage, and industrial control applications. It’s equipped with a quad-core Intel Celeron J1900 SoC from the latest — and now one year old — Bay Trail generation. The 2GHz J1100 features a relatively low 10W TDP, thanks to using the same low-power, 22nm Silvermont cores as found in Intel’s Atom E3800 system-on-chips. The J1900 is equipped with Intel HD graphics.

The ML400G-10 is available with up to 8GB of DDR3-1333 RAM, and offers mSATA and mini-PCIe expansion. The system provides dual gigabit Ethernet ports, four RS-232/422/485 COM ports, and six USB ports, including a pair of USB 3.0 ports. HDMI and VGA ports are available, along with PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports, and audio jacks.
The system can tolerate temperatures of 0 to 35°C. The ML400G-10 offers a 12V DC jack and a 60W AC adapter.
ML400G-11
The ML400G-11 is designed to support legacy I/O, and has the oldest processor of the bunch. The 3rd-generation (“Ivy Bridge”) Celeron 1037U has dual cores clocked to 1.8GHz, and is paired with an Intel HD graphics GPU.

The ML400G-11 supports up to 4GB of DDR3-1333 RAM, and provides mSATA and mini-PCIe expansion. The system is notable for providing a parallel port, “which is commonly used in both data acquisition and CNC machining applications,” says Logic Supply.
Only one gigabit Ethernet port is provided, as well as only one RS-232 COM port. Six USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, and VGA ports, dual PS/2 ports, and audio I/O round out the mix. The system runs on a 90W internal supply and has a 60W AD adapter. It’s also a bit more heat resistant than the ML400G-10, supporting temperatures from 0 to 40°C.
ML400G-30
The ML400G-30 is said to be optimized for low power consumption thanks to its ultra low voltage (ULV) 4th Generation Intel Core (Haswell-ULT) processor. Specifically, it provides a dual-core Core i5-4300U clocked at 1.9GHz (2.9GHz turbo), with 3MB Cache, 15W TDP, and Intel HD Graphics 4400 clocked at 200MHz.

The ML400G-30 enables up to 16GB of DDR3-1333 or -1600 RAM, and provides mSATA and mini-PCIe (full height) expansion. You get dual gigabit ports, two RS-232 ports, two RS-232/422/485 ports, and six USB ports, four of which are 3.0. HDMI and DisplayPort connections are available, as well as audio I/O.
The system supports wide-range 9 to 19V power, and ships with a 60W AC adapter. It supports temperatures ranging from 0 to 50°C.
ML400G-50
The fastest of the quartet gives you a choice of unspecified Intel Core (Haswell) i3 or i5 processors, and is primarily aimed at digital signage. The ML400G-50 supports up to 16GB of DDR3-1333 or -1600 RAM, and provides mSATA and mini-PCIe (full height) expansion.

The ML400G-50 gives you dual gigabit ports, three RS-232/422/485 ports, and four video ports: dual DisplayPorts and both VGA and HDMI ports. The system integrates four USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, for six total, and provides audio I/O. Like the ML400G-30, the ML400G-50 supports 0 to 50°C temperatures, and ships with an 80W AC adapter.
“The ML400 series represents the evolution of not only our own product line, but the embedded industry as a whole,” stated Logic Supply CEO Roland Groeneveld. “These systems are the brains inside some of today’s most cutting edge technologies, and we believe their capabilities and aesthetics should reflect that.”
Further information
The ML400G series is now available. Volume pricing without memory, storage, wireless, mounting, or OS options start at $595.80 (ML400G-10), $548.85 (ML400G-11), and $836.20 (ML400G-50). No pricing was available for the ML400G-30 system. The website lets you configure your system online, with all prices calculated. (Ubuntu only adds $10, while Windows adds $110 to $150.)
