Sixfab has launched the ALPON X5 AI on Kickstarter, a compact industrial-grade edge AI computer for applications including smart surveillance, healthcare monitoring, autonomous robotics, and industrial automation. It combines Raspberry Pi compatibility with a high-efficiency AI accelerator for a plug-and-play solution from prototyping to deployment.

The ALPON X5 AI is built around the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5, paired with NVMe SSD storage for fast, reliable data access. This combination retains the flexibility of the Raspberry Pi ecosystem while eliminating the performance bottlenecks and durability concerns of microSD cards according to the product page.

Its design closely follows that of the previous model, the ALPON X4, which offered a range of industrial I/O including user-programmable push buttons, status LEDs, USB Type-C PD and screw terminal power inputs (9–30V DC), HDMI 2.0 display output, multiple USB ports, dual Ethernet (100 Mbps and 1 Gbps or PoE in some variants), GPIO expansion, and hardware watchdog/boot switches.

The X5 carries forward this layout, adding refinements such as dual USB 3.0 ports and four external antennas for LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity, while maintaining industrial mounting options with two 4 mm holes for DIN rail or wall installation.

For AI workloads, the system integrates the DEEPX DX-M1 accelerator, delivering up to 25 TOPS INT8 performance at an average of 3.5 W. This enables real-time execution of models such as YOLOv5, YOLOPose, SCRFD, VGG16 lane detection, and VLM-based vision applications without relying on cloud connectivity.

Benchmarks show the X5 achieving 497 FPS on YOLOv5 (640×640) inference, with significantly higher FPS-per-watt efficiency compared to higher-power GPU-based alternatives.

On the software side, the ALPON X5 is fully compatible with the Raspberry Pi OS ecosystem and supports remote device management through the ALPON Cloud platform. This includes secure remote OS updates, containerized app deployment, and real-time monitoring, with features aimed at reducing on-site maintenance and enabling large-scale edge deployments.
