Rugged, fanless mini-PC runs Ubuntu on Atom at 8.3 Watts

Apr 13, 2016 — by Eric Brown 2,826 views

Logic Supply is selling a rugged, Cincoze-built “DA-1000” mini-PC with an Atom E3826, -25 to 70°C support, and a price starting at $569.

Logic Supply, which recently released an Intel Braswell-based CL100 Intel NUC mini-PC, announced a somewhat larger, but similarly fanless, mini-PC manufactured by Taiwan-based Cincoze. Logic Supply is distributing the DA-1000 in the U.S. starting at $569. The highly customizable DA-1000 is “our most affordable rugged computer to date,” says Logic Supply.

The DA-1000 runs Ubuntu or Windows on a dual-core, 1.46GHz Atom E3826 SoC with a 7W TDP. Under typical operation, the entire system consumes 8.3 Watts, or up to a maximum of 15W, says Logic Supply.

The system is enclosed in a fanless, ventless aluminum and steel chassis measuring 150 x 105 x 56mm, and supports operating temperatures of -25 to 70°C. The DA-1000 is designed to “resist damage from shock, vibration, and airborne contaminants,” according to Logic Supply, although no ruggedization specs were supplied.

The system features a wide input power voltage of 9 to 48V DC and a 3-pin terminal block connector “for stable, secure power even in vibration-prone or fluctuating power environments,” says Logic Supply. There’s also a 2-pin remote power on/off connector. Cincoze’s product page for the device also mentions the inclusion of over voltage and current protection, although this is not listed by Logic Supply.

As usual, Logic Supply offers a wide variety of customization options, supported with an online configurator. The base price gives you 2GB of standard temperature DDR3L RAM, while options extend up to 8GB of wide-temp memory.

The $569 price gives you a 32GB SATA SSD, and there are numerous HDD and SSD options up to 1TB, as well as an optional, mini-PCIe-based mSATA SSD up to 512GB. The other mini-PCIe slot supports optional wireless modules.

Front I/O includes dual GbE ports, 3 USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.0 port, and audio I/O. Rear ports include dual COM ports and a DVI-I port3-pin terminal block connector.
