Rugged COM Express module taps quad-core AMD SoC

Hectronic’s Linux-ready “H6066” COM Express Compact Type 6 module offers a quad-core AMD G-Series SoC, soldered memory, and optional -40 to 85°C operation.

Like Hectronic’s Qseven form-factor H6069 computer-on-module, the Linux-enabled H6066 uses the Embedded G-Series SoC (system-on-chip) with AMD Radeon HD 8000E graphics with AMD’s Open CL support. However, instead of the dual-core version provided by the H6069, the new H6066 offers a choice of two quad-core models. Also, rather conforming to the 70 x 70mm Qseven COM spec, the new module is implemented on the 95 x 95mm COM Express Compact Type 6 format.

Sweden-based Hectronic gives you a choice of two SKUs: one using a SoC with a faster clock rate, but with higher power consumption and a commercial operating temperature range, or another with a slower clock, but lower power draw and an industrial -40 to 85°C range:

  • GX-411GA — 4x x86 cores @ 1.1GHz with 15W TDP, -40 to 85°C, dual 24-bit LVDS
  • GX-420CA — 4x x86 cores @ 2GHz with 25W TDP, 0 to 60°C, single 18-bit LVDS

The H6066 can be ordered with up to 4GB DDR3 RAM and 32GB NAND flash, both of which are available in optional soldered configurations with conformal coating. The COM is said to be designed to “withstand challenging conditions involving for instance vibration, dust, damp and cold/warm surrounding temperatures.” The module also offers a wide input voltage range of 4.75V to 20V. Applications include defense, transportation, maritime, medical, and industrial automation, says Hectronic.

H6066 is equipped with a gigabit Ethernet controller and a variety of interfaces made available by the COM Express connectors. Dual independent displays are supported with a combination of the available 18- or 24-bit LVDS, as well as a VGA port and a port that combines DVl, HDMI, and DisplayPort.


Additional I/O includes two USB 3.0, eight USB 2.0, SDIO, and up to three SATA ports. You also get a variety of serial and legacy bus interfaces. Four PCI Express interfaces provide for expansion.

Specifications listed for the H6066 include:
