Red Pitaya and Texas Instruments Collaborate on New STEMlab Boards for High-Performance Data Acquisition

Jul 2, 2025 — by Giorgio Mendoza 227 views

Red Pitaya has unveiled new open-source STEMlab TI boards developed with Texas Instruments for demanding signal processing tasks in photonics, sensing, and laboratory automation. By incorporating TI’s precision analog components, the boards aim to combine accuracy and low jitter in a compact design.

The new models build on the Zynq-7000 SoC architecture, which integrates a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processing system with Xilinx programmable logic. Depending on the version, they feature the Zynq XC7Z020 SoC with a processor running up to 1 GHz, 85K programmable logic cells, about 53,200 LUTs, over 106,000 flip-flops, and up to 4.9 Mb of block RAM. This FPGA fabric supports high-density logic, dual-port RAMs, DSP slices and PCIe Gen2 x4.

Two variants are planned: the STEMlab 125-14 TI, featuring the TI ADC3664 (14-bit, 125 MSps) with on-chip digital filtering and DDC, and the STEMlab 65-16 TI, which uses the TI ADC3663 dual-channel 16-bit, 65 MSps ADC. Both include the TI DAC2904Y dual-channel DAC, the LMK03318 ultra-low jitter clock generator, two RF inputs and outputs, and Ethernet connectivity through the Zynq SoC.

Mateja Lampe Rupnik, CEO of Red Pitaya, stated, “Our customers increasingly need modular, ultra-low-latency tools that can be tailored to demanding environments, whether in photonics, aerospace, or industrial sensing. The collaboration with Texas Instruments helps us meet that need with even greater performance and precision, while keeping our commitment to accessibility and openness.”

Dalton Stringer, marketing engineer at Texas Instruments, noted that the ADC3664 family is designed to bridge high-speed and precision performance, simplifying digital control loop design while reducing power consumption.
