Nov 9, 2024 — by Giorgio Mendoza 425 views

The Raspberry Pi community has launched two new accessories to enhance their single-board computers: the $12 USB 3 Hub, providing four-way USB 3.0 connectivity, and the $60 Touch Display 2, offering a higher-resolution, slimmer touch interface for interactive use.

The USB 3 Hub provides high-speed data transfer up to 5 Gbps across four downstream USB 3.0 Type-A ports, connected through a single upstream USB 3.0 Type-A connector on an 8 cm captive cable.

An optional USB-C port allows for an external 3A power supply, ensuring stable performance even with multiple high-power devices. Developed in collaboration with Infineon and featuring CYUSB3304 silicon, the hub balances quality and affordability, ensuring compatibility and consistent performance across all Raspberry Pi models.

Complementing this, the Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 enhances visual interaction with its 7-inch LCD panel, offering a 720×1280 resolution and five-point capacitive touch. Building on the original 2015 model, this updated display connects directly to the DSI port and is compatible with Raspberry Pi models from 1B+ onward, excluding the Zero series.

With an 88mm × 155mm active area, it enables responsive touch navigation and supports both portrait and landscape orientations via Raspberry Pi OS. The redesigned enclosure integrates the display driver PCB, delivering a slimmer, more streamlined profile, and mounts securely with four screws. Power and data cables compatible with both standard and mini FPC connectors are included.

According to comments in the official announcement, the display’s brightness is adjustable from 0 to 250 cd/m², with a maximum driver setting of 31. Viewing angles are said to provide 50 degrees from the top and 70 degrees from the bottom, left, and right.
