Linux-ready Meerkat meer10 Launches with Intel Core Ultra, PCIe Gen5 Storage, and Wi-Fi 7

Jul 3, 2025 — by Giorgio Mendoza 243 views

System76 has updated its compact Linux mini PC lineup with the Meerkat meer10, which builds on its predecessor’s small form factor while adding faster processors, modern storage, and improved connectivity for users who want a capable Linux workstation in a tiny footprint.

One notable change is the expanded processor lineup. Alongside the Intel Core Ultra 5 225H and Core Ultra 7 255H, the meer10 now introduces an entry-level Intel Core i3 100U option. The new Ultra 5 and Ultra 7 models also feature higher boost clocks, reaching up to 4.9 GHz and 5.1 GHz respectively, for improved performance.

For graphics, the meer10 continues to leverage Intel Arc integrated GPUs, now specified as the Arc 130T for the Ultra 5 and Arc 140T for the Ultra 7, with the i3 model using standard Intel integrated graphics. Maximum memory support remains at 96 GB of dual-channel DDR5 running at 5600 MHz, but the Arc GPU requires both SO-DIMM slots populated for full functionality.

Another significant update is in storage. The meer10 drops the 2.5-inch SATA bay used in the meer9 and switches entirely to NVMe. The i3 version supports two M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe drives, while the Ultra 5 and Ultra 7 configurations add a faster PCIe Gen5 NVMe slot, alongside a Gen4 slot and an additional smaller M.2 slot for further expansion. Total storage capacity tops out at 10 TB.

Connectivity also sees an upgrade. The meer10 introduces Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, improving wireless speeds and device pairing over the meer9’s Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Physical networking retains dual Intel 2.5 Gigabit LAN ports.

For external devices and displays, the meer10 supports quad-display output through two HDMI 2.1 ports and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, both with DisplayPort 2.1 capabilities and USB4 support. Compared to the meer9, which offered a single Thunderbolt port, the addition of a second port brings more options for docks, displays, or external GPUs. Front I/O includes dual USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports and a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C, with more ports at the rear for legacy and high-speed devices.

Depending on the CPU configuration, the system draws power from a 90 W or 120 W adapter, just like the previous version and continues to offer full support for Linux distributions like Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, or Ubuntu 24.04 LTS out of the box. The design remains VESA-mountable for flexible placement.
