LILYGO T-Watch Ultra Features ESP32-S3, AMOLED Display, GNSS, and LoRa Connectivity

Jul 22, 2025 — by Giorgio Mendoza 1,055 views

LILYGO has unveiled the T-Watch Ultra, a multifunctional smartwatch platform that integrates wireless connectivity, location tracking, long-range communication, and intelligent motion sensing in a compact form. Built around the Espressif ESP32-S3, the device is targeted at developers working on embedded, wearable, and remote sensing applications.

The ESP32-S3 used in the T-Watch Ultra features a dual Xtensa LX7 processor with a maximum clock speed of 240 MHz. It includes 16 MB of QSPI flash memory and 8 MB of PSRAM. Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 5.0 LE are supported, along with hardware acceleration for vector instructions that assist in AI and signal processing tasks. Storage is available through a microSD card slot that supports up to 32 GB formatted in FAT32.

Measuring 49 × 63.5 × 22 mm, the smartwatch features a 2.06-inch AMOLED display based on the CO5300 OSPI panel with a resolution of 410 × 502 pixels, support for 16.7 million colors, and capacitive touch input managed by the CST9217 controller.

For geolocation, the T-Watch Ultra includes the u-blox MIA-M10Q GNSS module, which supports concurrent reception of GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou signals. It delivers fast acquisition and high sensitivity in a compact footprint, consuming just 25 mW in tracking mode. It also offers velocity accuracy of 0.05 m/s and dynamic heading accuracy of 0.3 degrees, which can be useful in wearable applications.

The watch also integrates the Semtech SX1262 LoRa transceiver, which supports both 868 MHz and 915 MHz ISM bands used in Europe and North America for low-power, long-range communication.

A Bosch BHI260AP smart sensor provides intelligent motion tracking by combining a 6-axis IMU with a programmable processing unit for fitness recognition, dead reckoning, and orientation detection. According to the datasheet, the AI engine enables on-device learning for personalized motion analysis while minimizing power usage.

Other components include the DRV2605 haptic driver for vibration feedback, the MAX98357A amplifier for audio output, an onboard microphone, an ST25R3916 NFC module, and a PCF85063A real-time clock. Power is supplied by a 1100 mAh lithium battery managed by the AXP2101 power management unit, with a USB Type-C port used for both charging and firmware uploading.

As with other LILYGO products, development environments include Arduino IDE, ESP-IDF, VS Code, and MicroPython. The GitHub repository for the T-Watch Ultra includes initial documentation at the time of publication.
