LILYGO Launches Four New ESP32-S3 Boards for LoRa, Display, Motion, and CAN Applications

Jul 24, 2025 — by Giorgio Mendoza 615 views

LILYGO has announced four new ESP32-S3-based development boards targeting a diverse range of embedded and IoT applications. These boards combine wireless connectivity with specialized hardware such as e-paper displays, CAN interfaces, motion sensors, and GPS modules, and are designed for rapid prototyping and deployment using familiar platforms like Arduino IDE, PlatformIO, and ESP-IDF.

The T-Beam BPF is designed for developers working in long-range wireless environments, particularly within the 144–148 MHz VHF spectrum. It integrates an ESP32-S3FN8 with 16 MB of flash and 8 MB of PSRAM, alongside a Semtech SX1278 LoRa transceiver.

The board includes a GNSS L76K GPS module, a 0.96-inch SSD1306 OLED display, microSD card support, and buttons for boot, reset, and power. AXP2101 handles power management, and dual QWIIC connectors enable sensor expansion. With an included antenna and protective case, this platform is well suited for amateur radio and field telemetry applications, measuring 128 × 38 × 31 mm and powered via USB at 5 V, 500 mA.

The T-Display Bar is a slim, vertically oriented ESP32-S3 board featuring a 2.25-inch RGB IPS LCD with a resolution of 76 × 284 pixels and capacitive touch support. It includes the Bosch BHI260AP AI motion sensor with a 6-axis IMU and embedded processor for local movement analysis and orientation tracking.

The board is powered by an ESP32-S3R8 (16 MB flash, 8 MB PSRAM) and also includes a buzzer, MicroSD card slot, and QWIIC headers. This configuration supports use in fitness trackers, display-driven controls, and compact user interfaces, with the T-Display Bar measuring 69 × 23 × 15 mm and operating on 5 V at 500 mA via USB Type-C.

The T-2CAN targets developers working with vehicles, robotics, and automation systems. It features an ESP32-S3 (16 MB flash, 8 MB PSRAM) and two MCP2515 CAN controllers, each compliant with CAN V2.0B at 1 Mb/s. Each channel includes dedicated filters, masks, and transceivers with terminal screw connectors for rugged deployment.

The board supports USB or DC (5–12 V) input, includes QWIIC headers, and features reset and boot buttons for firmware control. With onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the board supports use as a gateway for connected CAN devices, measuring 91 × 39 × 18 mm and drawing 5 V at 500 mA when powered via USB.

The Mini E-Paper S3 Kit combines a 1.02-inch E-Paper display (128 × 80 resolution) with an SX1262 LoRa transceiver supporting 868, 915, and 923 MHz bands. It is built around the ESP32-S3FN4R2 (4 MB flash, 2 MB PSRAM) and includes a MicroSD card slot, real-time clock (PCF85063ATL), QWIIC connector, and battery holder compatible with 3.7 V 18350 cells.

Designed for low-power applications, the board retains display data with minimal energy use and can be powered via USB Type-C or battery, with a 102 × 24.5 × 53 mm enclosure and 5 V, 500 mA USB power requirements.
