Libre Computer has shared new details on its upcoming Solitude and Alta Compute Modules, designed as pin-compatible alternatives to Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4) and Compute Module 5 (CM5) form factors.

The modules are designed for lower power consumption compared to Raspberry Pi CM4 and CM5, with support for low power states and wake events such as Wake-on-LAN, Wake-on-IR/IO/CEC, and Wake-on-Camera/Display. Wireless connectivity is not included on the module, with RF modules intended to be paired via SDIO.

Hardware differences from CM4 and CM5 include PCM in/out/sync/clock in place of USB 3 TX/RX (with USB 3 and PCIe multiplexed), SDIO in place of HDMI 1, simultaneous eMMC/SD operation with card detection, ARC (Alta) and eARC (Solitude) pins, and line-out audio pins. Other changes include SPI NOR/NAND support, PCIe power and wake control, and modified CSI lane configurations. The CM5 variant also adds a tachometer pin for fan monitoring via UART RX.

According to Libre Computer, the modules also feature secondary CEC on HDMI 1, even with a single video output, and can boot EtherealOS for simplified upstream OS deployment.
