i.MX6 Pico-ITX and mini-PC run Android, Ubuntu, and Yocto

Aug 17, 2016 — by Eric Brown 2,414 views

Logic Supply’s Embux-made Pico-ITX SBC runs Android and Linux on an i.MX6 DualLite, and is also available in a mini-PC.

Logic Supply is reselling an Embux-manufactured Pico-ITX form-factor “ICM-2010 2.5”” SBC and “ICS-2010” mini-PC. The SBC starts at $193, plus $29 for an 8GB SD card equipped with Android, Ubuntu, or Yocto Project based Linux. A power adapter adds another $30. The products are designed for applications including industrial control, home automation, kiosk, digital signage, or robotics applications.

ICM-2010

The ICM-2010 runs at only 3 Watts thanks to the 1GHz, dual-core DualLite version of NXP’s i.MX6 SoC, which has a slightly lesser powered Vivante GPU compared to the i.MX6 Dual. Another Pico-ITX/mini-PC combo based on the DualLite is the Advantech RSB-3410 SBC and IBC-220 mini-PC.

While the Advantech RSB-3410 is a headless device aimed at IoT gateways, the ICM-2010 is a more general-purpose industrial board with HDMI and LVDS display interfaces. The ICM-2010 lacks the 4GB eMMC flash and built-in wireless of the Advantech board, but can expand with a mini-PCIe card and SIM card.

The compact, 100 x 72mm SBC features 1GB of DDR3 RAM and a full-sized SD slot, and offers a GbE port and three USB 2.0 ports, two of them on the coastline. There’s also an exposed RS-485 terminal block, as well as a watchdog timer connectors for RS-232, CAN, and I2C.

ICS-2010

The ICM-2010 has wider (-20 to 70°C) temperature range than the Advantech board. However, the $313 ICS-2010 mini-PC version only supports 0 to 50°C, possibly because it adds a real-time programmable display on the top of the unit to monitor current, voltage, and temperature. Like the SBC, the 106 x 27 x 78mm mini-PC is said to be constructed using all-solid capacitors and 1 percent precision resistors, and feature “a completely jumperless design.”

The fanless, aluminum ICS-2010 mini-PC has cut-outs for the SBC’s HDMI, GbE, and dual USB ports, as well as the RS-485 3.5mm terminal block. The only other difference is that the SD slot is converted to a micro-SD slot.

Taiwan-based Embux (but not Logic Supply) also offers an ICM-2011 Pico-ITX board with the same DualLite SoC, OS support, and most of the same features as the ICM-2010. It adds two more RS-232 interfaces, a second CAN header, an SDIO header, and 8x GPIO. On the other hand, it loses the mini-PCIe and SIM card slot, as well as the I2C connector.
