GL.iNet Comet PoE Remote KVM with Power over Ethernet

GL.iNet has introduced the Comet PoE (GL-RM1PE), a compact remote KVM device for server management, industrial systems, NVR setups, and HomeLab use. It supports 4K@30 FPS remote display, two-way audio, PoE for simplified deployment, and includes onboard storage with self-hosted cloud support.

The Comet PoE is equipped with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, paired with 1 GB of DDR3L memory and 32 GB of onboard eMMC. The storage allows multiple system images to be pre-stored, enabling quick reinstallation and long-term scalability.

Networking is provided by a Gigabit Ethernet interface with 802.3af/at PoE support, reducing cable requirements by combining power and data. The device can also be powered via USB Type-C with support for 5 V / 2 A PD-compatible adapters. Typical power consumption is under 5 W.

Connectivity options include one USB 2.0 Type-A port for extensions and one USB 2.0 Type-C port that can function as a USB device. Additional features include a reset button for restoring factory settings and LED indicators for power and Ethernet status. The device measures 102 × 70 × 22 mm, weighs 140 g, and operates fanlessly.

The Comet PoE runs Linux and supports both DHCP and static network configurations. Remote KVM functions include a virtual keyboard, customizable EDID, hotkeys, clipboard sharing, screen rotation, file transfer, and image quality adjustment.

It also supports a smart mouse jiggler, dual mouse modes (absolute and relative), and two-way audio for remote collaboration. Deployment can be self-hosted on Linux or Ubuntu using a 2-core, 2 GB RAM cloud server, with no personal data collection.
