Gemini 435Le Features Active Stereo, Dual-Laser Modules, and 6-Axis IMU for 3D Vision

Jun 15, 2025 — by Giorgio Mendoza 278 views

The Gemini 435Le is Orbbec’s newest 3D camera, designed to deliver robust, high-precision depth sensing for demanding industrial and outdoor robotics environments. Engineered with industrial-grade construction and IP67 protection, it supports logistics automation, robotic arms, and autonomous mobile robots operating in variable and dynamic conditions.

The system employs stereo vision technology with a 95 mm baseline and projects infrared patterns using a vertical cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL). This laser diode module enhances the visibility of low-texture surfaces, with an 850 nm ±6 nm wavelength and compliance with Class 1 safety standards. The unit features a horizontal field of view (FOV) of 101°, vertical FOV of 72.5°, and a ±3.0° tolerance, maintaining reliable depth coverage across broad scenes.

The Gemini 435Le includes a single-point direct time-of-flight (dToF) laser ranging module, operating at 940 nm to enhance performance in close-range and blind-spot detection. This module features a 19° projector FOV and a 37° receiver FOV, offering ±15 mm accuracy at 1–100 mm range. Accuracy improves to ±10 mm at 100–200 mm and ±5% at 200–400 mm.

The infrared and RGB modules each support 1280 × 800 resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio, global shutter, fixed focus, and shared FOVs of 94° (H) × 68° (V), with a diagonal FOV of 104°. Both modules are designed to minimize distortion, keeping it under 1.5%, with FOV tolerances within ±3.0°. The IR module includes a visible + NIR-pass filter, while the RGB module uses an IR-cut filter.

An onboard 6-DoF IMU provides real-time inertial data with synchronized timestamps across IMU, IR, RGB, and depth streams. The gyroscope and accelerometer each operate on a 3 × 16-bit format. The gyroscope supports ±17.45 rad/s (1000 dps), while the accelerometer supports ±39.2 m/s² (4g). Both sensors support sampling rates from 50 Hz to 1000 Hz. A dedicated temperature sensor monitors operating conditions from -40°C to 85°C.

Connectivity is provided via Gigabit Ethernet over M12 connectors, enabling both PoE and RS485 communication. Multi-camera synchronization is supported through hardware sync in/out lines. The camera supports standard network protocols such as TCP/IP and RTSP and operates with an average power draw of 6.5W (DC) or 8.0W (PoE), peaking at 11W and 15W, respectively.

The Gemini 435Le is compatible with both x86 and ARM platforms. Supported systems include Windows 10/11 and Ubuntu 20.04/22.04. It can be integrated with Intel i7-based systems or NVIDIA Jetson platforms such as AGX Orin, Orin NX, and Orin Nano. Recommended hardware includes 8GB of RAM and supported Ethernet adapters like Intel I219-LM or Realtek RTL8111/8168.
