Forlinx Unveils Cost-Effective i.MX8MPL-C SoM for Industrial Applications

Forlinx Embedded recently introduced the FETMX8MPL-C SoM, a cost-effective solution for industrial and IoT applications that balances performance and functionality without incorporating advanced multimedia or machine learning features.

The FETMX8MPL-C SoM is powered by the NXP i.MX 8M Plus Quad Lite processor, featuring a quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU running at 1.6GHz and a Cortex-M7 for real-time control. It comes in two configurations: 2GB LPDDR4 RAM with 16GB eMMC storage and 1GB LPDDR4 RAM with 8GB eMMC storage.

The main difference between the FETMX8MPL-C and the previously launched FETMX8MP-C lies in hardware configuration.

The FETMX8MPL-C eliminates advanced units such as the NPU, ISP, and VPU to reduce costs while maintaining essential processing and interface capabilities for less demanding applications.

Despite the streamlining, the FETMX8MPL-C retains support for high-speed communication interfaces, including USB 3.0, PCIe 3.0, CAN-FD, and Ethernet. It is also fully compatible with the FETMX8MP-C, ensuring integration into existing systems.

The module currently supports the Linux 5.4.70 operating system, with no support for Android at this time, as noted on the product page.
