Food processing panel-PCs boast IP69K ingress protection

Aug 28, 2015 — by Eric Brown 543 views

Adlink’s latest 15-, 17-, and 19-inch resistive touchscreen panel-PCs for food processing run Linux on a dual-core Atom, and offer IP69K ingress protection.

Food processing plants use computerized equipment to help monitor and protect food against contamination. Yet they also have to ensure the equipment itself is not contaminated by food and disinfectants. To this end, Adlink has announced a “Food-C15/C17/C19 IP69K” industrial panel-PC with IP69K protection against dust and liquids. The rugged, stainless steel device, which is part of its Penta Adlink Food series of panel-PCs, is resistant to steam cleaning, and can withstand “high-pressure water sprays up to 80°C from all sides,” says the company.

The Food-C15/C17/C19 IP69K is available in with 15-, 17-, and 19-inch, resistive touchscreens with 1024 x 768 (15-inch) or 1280 x 1024-pixel resolution. The displays feature >80% extended transparency, as well as hard-coated surfaces that resist abrasion, says Adlink.

The device is equipped with a dual-core, 1.86GHz Intel Atom D2550 processor from the Cedar Trail generation. You can run Linux, Windows 7, and for nostalgic types, Windows XP, and a customized “embedded Linux” is said to be available upon request.

The panel-PC supports up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and has a “24/7” hard disk drive or optional SSD or cFast card. Other features include dual gigabit Ethernet ports, three USB 2.0 ports, two RS-232 ports, and optional WiFi. Adlink notes that inputs and reader devices such as scanners and Legic RFID readers are “easily connectable,” but does not provide details.

The passively cooled, VESA-mountable system has a temperature range of 0 to 40°C. The 10/240VAC, 50/60Hz power supply can be replaced with an optional 24VDC supply. With modest weights ranging from 8.6 kilograms to 11.2 k for the 19-inch model, the device can be replaced in less than five minutes by one employee, according to a testimonial from meat-packing customer Ulmer Fleisch.

  1. Mr Wiggin of Ironside & Malone says:

The qualities of “Ingress protection” and “resistant to steam cleaning, and can withstand high-pressure water sprays up to 80°C from all sides” must make this device the #1 choice for use in abattoirs, where the dispersion of body fluids is an inevitable outcome.
