Waveshare recently launched an ESP32-S3 development board featuring an integrated 1.91″ AMOLED display, designed for rapid prototyping and the development of IoT and portable projects with interactive displays.

Built around the ESP32-S3R8 chip, the board offers a 32-bit LX7 dual-core processor, capable of reaching up to 240MHz, alongside integrated 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth BLE 5 support. It includes 16MB of Flash and 8MB of PSRAM, complemented by 512KB of SRAM and 384KB of ROM.

The development board’s 1.91″ AMOLED display, with a resolution of 240 × 536, supports 16.7 million colors and wide viewing angles. Driven by the RM67162 controller, the display is optimized for running GUI applications like LVGL via the QSPI communication interface.

The board is available in touch and non-touch versions, with the touch-capable models incorporating the FT3168 touch IC.

A QMI8658 6-axis IMU, featuring a 3-axis accelerometer and gyroscope, enables gesture recognition and step counting, enhancing functionality in wearable and motion-sensitive applications.

Additional peripherals include a USB Type-C port for power, programming, and debugging, a MicroSD card slot for external storage, and a LiPo battery header for portable applications. The board comes in a CNC metal case and is compatible with Pico headers for expanded connectivity.

The ESP32-S3 platform supports multiple software environments, including ESP-IDF and Arduino. However, as of the publication date, the documentation page for this board is not yet available on Waveshare.
