Display-oriented eNUC SBC runs on Apollo Lake

Jan 16, 2018 — by Eric Brown 820 views

Portwell’s 4×4-inch (eNUC) form factor “WUX-3455” SBC offers a choice of Apollo Lake SoCs plus up to 64GB eMMC 5.0, SATA III, 4x USB 3.0, M.2 expansion, and HDMI and DisplayPorts for up to 4K video.

Portwell’s WUX-3455 single-board computer uses the 4×4-inch (101.6 x 101.6mm) Embedded NUC (eNUC) form factor, which we saw last March in Seco’s Snapdragon 410E based SBC-B47-eNUC SBC. Like Portwell’s smaller, Pico-ITX form factor Pico-6260 SBC, it features Intel’s Apollo Lake SoCs, although in this case it omits the Atoms in favor of Celeron and Pentium models.

Portwell highlights the quad-core Celeron J3455 (1.5GHz/2.3GHz, 10W TDP) in its press release. You can also choose the more commonly seen quad-core Pentium N4200 (1.1GHz/2.5GHz, 6W TDP) or dual-core Celeron N3550 (1.1GHz/2.4GHz, 6W TDP). No OS was listed, but this is clearly Linux and Windows territory.

The WUX-3455 is designed for digital signage and other visual communications applications in medical, digital surveillance, industrial automation, office automation, and retail. The board has a 12-19V wide-range DC input and a 0 to 60°C temperature range.

The SBC is further equipped with GbE, RS-232, and 4x USB 3.0 ports plus two more USB 2.0 headers. An M.2 slot supports various wireless options, and a TPM chip is optional.
