DE25-Standard Development Kit with Agilex 5 SoC FPGA and DDR4 Support

Aug 12, 2025 — by Giorgio Mendoza 222 views

The DE25-Standard development kit for the Altera University Program features the Intel Agilex 5 SoC FPGA with 138K logic elements, delivering up to 2.5× higher performance than previous generations. Combining high-performance FPGA fabric with an ARM-based hard processor system, it supports a broad range of digital logic, embedded systems, and robotics applications.

The Agilex 5 SoC features a quad-core ARM configuration with 2× Cortex-A55 and 2× Cortex-A76 processors, tightly coupled to the FPGA fabric through a high-bandwidth interconnect. The DE25-Standard board includes 1 GB of DDR4 SDRAM on a 32-bit bus shared with the HPS, 64 MB of dedicated SDRAM on the FPGA, and a 128 Mbit QSPI flash for configuration. It supports on-board USB-Blaster III programming via a USB Type-C connector.

Connectivity and expansion options include a 40-pin GPIO header with diode protection, a 10-pin ADC input header, and an HSMC connector with four transceivers. The board provides a two-lane MIPI CSI/DSI connector for camera and display, an HDMI 2.0 output port with 1080p support, and a composite video input with NTSC/PAL/SECAM decoding. Other interfaces include Gigabit Ethernet, dual USB Type-A host ports, UART-to-USB, and a microSD card socket.

The DE25-Standard integrates various peripherals for multimedia and sensor applications. A 24-bit audio CODEC with line-in, line-out, and microphone input is included, along with an infrared emitter and receiver. The board also features an accelerometer (G-sensor), 128×64 pixel monochrome LCD, user switches, push-buttons, LEDs, and six 7-segment displays. For AI and vision workloads, developers can leverage the FPGA’s tensor blocks together with the MIPI and HDMI interfaces for real-time video processing.
