Olimex has announced that the highly anticipated PICO2-XL and PICO2-XXL open-source hardware boards are now available for pre-order, with shipments starting on January 17, 2025. These boards expand on the Raspberry Pi PICO2, offering increased GPIO availability and improved memory configurations for enhanced development flexibility.

First introduced in November 2024, the PICO2-XXL features 16MB of external QSPI Flash, 8MB of PSRAM, and a microSD card mounted on the bottom side of the PCB. It exposes all 48 GPIOs of the RP2350 microcontroller, grouped for efficient use, and is designed for more demanding applications.

The PICO2-XL, a streamlined version, includes 2MB of external QSPI Flash with a nearly flat bottom design, offering a compact yet capable option for simpler projects.

Olimex has confirmed that the boards are currently undergoing testing and that all documentation will be finalized and ready before shipments begin. Customers can look forward to these boards, which are compatible with development platforms like MicroPython and Arduino.
