Neuromorphic edge AI chip debuts on Raspberry Pi and Comet Lake dev kits

BrainChip has launched two “Akida Development Kits” for its self-learning, low-power “Akida NSoC” neural networking chip for edge AI. One uses the Raspberry Pi CM4 and the other a Comet Lake-S based Shuttle PC system.

Arm adds virtual testing platform for Corstone Cortex-A and -M ref designs

Arm has launched an “Arm Total Solutions for IoT” initiative that combines its Cortex-A- and -M based Corstone SoC reference designs with a new “Arm Virtual Hardware Targets” platform for virtual, cloud-based testing.

PICMG spec standardizes links between IoT controllers and sensors

PICMG has ratified an “IoT.1” firmware spec for standardizing plug-and-play communications between IoT controllers and sensors and effecters. The spec works with PICMG’s recent microSAM MCU module form factor.

Ubuntu Frame offers a snaps-based shell for developing edge-device GUIs

Jetson-based SDR system features updated AirStack software

Deepwave Digital’s v0.5.0 release of its Ubuntu-based AirStack SDR stack adds CV sample rates and improved recovery support. AirStack runs on Deepwave’s AIR-T and rugged new AIR-T Edge systems based on a Jetson TX2i, Artix-7 FPGA, and an AD transceiver.

Speedy PaSh shell compiler finds new home at the Linux Foundation

Home Assistant project launches its own Raspberry Pi CM4 carrier

The Home Assistant project has opened pre-orders on an open-spec, $149 “Home Assistant Amber” system based on an RPI CM4 with GbE, 3x USB, ZigBee, and M.2 M-key. $99 kit versions without the CM4 include a PoE model.

Xilinx unveils rugged additions to Versal ACAP

Nvidia’s TensorRT 8.0 boasts faster conversational AI performance

Nvidia has released TensorRT 8.0 for Nvidia GPUs including its Jetson modules. This latest AI inference optimization SDK delivers up to 2x the natural language query performance compared to v7.0, with 1.2ms latency using BERT.

T-shirt design contest celebrates 30 years of Linux

The Linux Foundation has launched a T-shirt design contest to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Linux. The LF also announced an Open 3D Foundation for creating an Open 3D Engine plus an Open Voice Network for open, AI-enabled voice assistance.
