Braswell Pico-ITX board features HDMI, SATA, GbE, M.2
Aug 12, 2016 — by Eric Brown 1,561 viewsIEI’s wide temperature “Hyper-BW” Pico-ITX SBC expands upon Intel’s Braswell chips with 2x mini-HDMI, 4x USB, and 2x serial, plus SATA, M.2, and GbE.
IEI’s 100 x 72mm Hyper-BW recently showed up on an IEI product page with a “preliminary” tag, and without an announcement. The SBC follows earlier IEI Pico-ITX boards like the Bay Trail Celeron based Hyper-BT and the AMD G-Series SoC based Hyper-KBN. The Hyper-BW moves up to the latest Pentium and Celeron models within Intel’s 14nm “Braswell” line of SoCs, and can be compared with boards like Commell’s Braswell-based LP-176 Pico-ITX SBC.

IEI’s SBC lacks the LP-176’s support for Intel’s 1.04GHz, 5W TDP Atom X5-E8000, but it similarly supports the top-of-the-line , quad-core, 1.6GHz/2.58GHz Pentium N3710. Unlike Commell’s board, it can also load one of three Braswell-based Celerons, including the quad-core N3160, dual-core N3060, and dual-core N3010. All four SoCs have 6W TDPs except for the N3060 with 4W TDP. No OS support was listed, but this rugged, no-frills board looks like it was born to run Linux.
The Hyper-BW supports up to 8GB of DDR3L, and offers only dual displays via a pair of mini-HDMI ports rather than the LP-176’s triple displays. A SATA 6Gbps port is available, but instead of offering mini-PCIe with mSATA, you get an even more versatile M.2 Key B port with support for SATA, PCIe extensions like wireless, and other interfaces.

In addition to the two mini-HDMI’s, coastline ports include a GbE port, a USB 3.0, and a USB 2.0 port. Two more USB 2.0 interfaces are onboard along with dual RS-232 interfaces and HD audio. The 12V board supports colder temperatures than the Commell board, at -20 to 60°C, and also provides some vibration resistance and IEI’s One Key Recovery solution for rapid OS backup and recovery.
