(Updated) Adafruit Showcases New Feather Form-Factor Board Powered by RP2350

Sep 17, 2024 — by Giorgio Mendoza 265 views

Adafruit is set to enhance its Feather product line with the new Feather RP2350, featuring Raspberry Pi’s latest RP2350 chip. This upcoming board introduces a novel HSTX Port along with support for MicroPython and CircuitPython, making it accessible for both beginner and experienced developers.

This board transitions from the dual M0 cores of its predecessor, the RP2040, to more powerful dual ARM Cortex-M33 cores running at 150 MHz. The RP2350 is designed to boost application performance with its 8MB of flash memory and an optional PSRAM expansion.

Key improvements in the RP2350 chip include a doubled SRAM capacity of 520KB, support for hardware floating point calculations, and enhanced firmware execution speed. It also boasts three Programmable I/O blocks, TrustZone technology for secure boot operations, and a High Speed Transmit peripheral that enables high-speed data transmission without the need for overclocking.

The Feather RP2350 offers a robust suite of peripherals, including two I2C controllers, two SPI controllers, and two UARTs, all configurable across the GPIO for versatile pin setups. The board also provides 24 PWM channels and four 12-bit ADCs to support a wide range of hardware interfaces. A USB Type-C connector facilitates programming and debugging, and an integrated permanent ROM USB UF2 bootloader simplifies firmware updates.

Despite its powerful features, the board maintains a compact footprint at just 2.0″ x 0.9″ x 0.28″ and weighs only 5 grams. It includes a lipoly charger for battery-powered applications and features provisions for an optional SOIC PSRAM chip. With 29x GPIO pins, an RGB NeoPixel for feedback, and multiple mounting options, the board is designed for flexibility in a variety of project settings.

It is important to note that the A2 version of the RP2350 chip on this board is subject to the E9 erratum, which affects certain GPIO and PIO configurations. To address this, using resistors of 8.2K ohms or smaller may be necessary for effective pull-downs.

Further information

The Adafruit Feather RP2350 with HSTX Port is listed at $12.50. Although the product page is active, the board appears to be out of stock as of the last update.

(Update 9/21/2024): The product is now available for purchase on the Adafruit website.
