70-inch Android touchscreen targets interactive education

Jun 29, 2015 — by Eric Brown 1,149 views

ViewSonic’s new 70-inch HD touchscreen signage system runs Android on a dual-core ARM SoC, and is aimed at interactive education and business presentations.

The $7,300 CDE7060T signage computer joins other ViewSonic large-format displays, projectors, and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) products aimed at the education market. It was announced along with a LightStream PJD6552LWS networkable short-throw projector, for which no Linux or Android claims were made.

The CDE7060T is said to offer a Linux OS, but the datasheet more specifically notes that it runs the Linux-based Android 4.2.1 on an unnamed, dual-core Cortex-A9 system-on-chip. Also onboard are 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of flash.

An optional “slot-in” PC is available for greater computing power, says ViewSonic. Pre-installed “ViewBoard” annotation and presentation software allows multiple users to write, draw, or annotate with fingers or styluses simultaneously, says the company.

The 70-inch, 1920 x 1080-pixel, 10-point simultaneous touchscreen features a backlit display with 6ms response time, says ViewSonic. Other display specs include 350 cd/m2 brightness, a 16:9 aspect ratio, and a 4000:1 contrast ratio. The scratch-resistant, anti-glare screen boasts 176º viewing angles.
