Skylake mini-PC has dual M.2 slots and up to 32GB DDR4

Sep 12, 2018 — by Eric Brown — 835 views

Aaeon has launched a Linux-ready “Nano-002N” mini-PC with a 6th Gen Core CPU, up to 32GB DDR4, 2x GbE, 2x HDMI, and 4x USB 3.0 ports, plus dual M.2 slots.

Aaeon’s Nano-002N upgrades its Intel 5th Gen Nano-001N from 2015 with a dual-core, 6th Gen “Skylake” U-series CPU and additional new features. These include a serial port and twice the maximum memory for up to 32GB DDR4, among other enhancements. The mini-PC is well suited for media player, digital signage and POS, as well as other “tough applications in the factory, office, and off-site locations.”

Like the Nano-001N, the Nano-002N is built on a Nano-ITX mainboard and measures 150 x 125 x 55mm. It similarly offers a wide-range 12-19V DC input. The Nano-002N is touted for its “protection against vibrations and sudden impacts,” although no specs were listed.

You can run Fedora or Windows on a choice of four Intel Skylake-U CPUs, all with 15W TDPs. Like the earlier model, there are 4x USB 3.0 ports, but you lose the dual USB 2.0 ports and onboard header. The M.2 M-Key storage slot is joined by an M.2 E-Key slot, which replaces the earlier mini-PCIe connection. WiFi antennas and dual GbE ports are available.

The dual DisplayPorts have been swapped out for two HDMI 1.4 ports. In addition to the standard, fanless 0 to 40°C model, you can buy 0 to 50°C model that requires a fan.
