Rugged vehicle PC offers power protection, wireless options
Jun 22, 2015 — by Eric Brown — 958 viewsAaeon’s rugged, Linux-ready “Boxer” PC for vehicles offers a 4th Gen Core CPU, dual GbE and four 10/100 PoE LAN ports, mini-PCIe expansion, and a SIM slot.
The Boxer-6301VS Embedded Box PC joins the aging, Atom D510 based AEV-6312 as Aaeon’s only other in-vehicle computer. There will soon be more, however, as Aaeon says it plans to introduce several variants of the Boxer-6301VS, including a model with a dual CANBus connections. The press release suggests the current model has a CANbus port, but this is not listed on the product page or datasheet.

Like Aaeon’s AEC-6638 embedded PC, the Boxer-6301VS is a ruggedized, fanless computer that runs Fedora Linux or Windows on a 4th Gen “Haswell” Intel Core processor. It specifically supports the Core i5-4402E, a dual-core, 1.6GHz chip with 3MB cache, a 25W TDP, and Intel HD Graphics 4600.
Like Aaeon’s general purpose, Bay Trail Celeron based Boxer-6614, the Boxer-6301VS is a rugged, fanless box computer. The 255 x 190 x 88mm Boxer-6301VS, however, is squarely aimed at in-vehicle applications.
