MontaVista rolls out v7 Carrier Grade Linux

MontaVista is shipping the 7th edition of its Linux-based software platform for multi-architecture virtualization and abstraction of network infrastructure applications. Carrier Grade Edition 7 (CGE 7) boasts hardened virtualization capabilities and services, enhanced security and up-time availability, and new technologies for dynamic cloud based networks.

According to MontaVista, CGE 7 targets the demands of the virtualized network, providing application portability, dynamic configuration, and real-time performance in a single platform.

“These new features enable providers of Next-Generation Networks to handle the explosive growth and increase in traffic, specifically with the rapid adoption of cloud technology and the growth in multimedia and video rich content,” states the company in CGE 7′s release announcement.

According to MontaVista, CGE 7 leverages the Security Technology Implementation Guildline (STIG) and Common Criteria Operation System Protection Profile (OSPP) standards to build out the security features for the platform, including features appicable to both network and embedded appilcations. Live Kernel Patching capabilities allow network operators to update systems without downtime.

MontaVista says CGE 7 complies with various industry standards, including Yocto v1.2, CGL 5.0, LSB 4.1, and IPv6 Certification Ready.
