Eurotech has spun two rugged, Linux-friendly COM Express Type 6 modules in Basic and Compact form-factors, built on Intel’s 6th Gen Core CPUs.

Eurotech’s 125 x 95mm COM Express Basic Type 6 “CPU-162-22” and 95 x 95mm Compact Type 6 CPU-161-17 modules expand upon Intel’s 6th Gen Core “Skylake” processors, in EQ- and U-series models, respectively. Both COMs can run Linux or Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, and support Eurotech’s optional Everyware Software Framework (ESF), an IoT framework based on the Java/OSGi Eclipse Kura project.

Both modules provide industrial -40 to 85°C, support, while the Compact CPU-161-17 also offers an extended temperature -20 to 60°C SKU. Customization, long lifecycle support, and conformal coating are optional.

CPU-162-22

The Basic CPU-162-22 taps the newly added, dual-core, 1.6GHz Celeron G3902E, as well as the quad-core, 1.9GHz/2.75GHz Core i5 6442EQ and 2.0GHz/2.8GHz Core i7 6822EQ. All three processors provide 25W TDPs, and are paired with an Intel QM170 chipset.

The CPU-162-22 supports up to 32GB DDR4-2133 RAM via dual sockets. Four SATA 3.0 interfaces support RAID 0/1/5/10. There’s also a Gigabit Ethernet port with iAMT support.

Triple independent displays are supported via VGA (2560 x 1600 @ 60Hz), dual-channel, 24-bit LVDS (1920×1200 @60Hz) and DDI, which enables HDMI or DisplayPort++ at up to 4K @ 60Hz. HD audio support is also available.

The CPU-162-22 supports 4x USB 3.0 ports, 8x USB 2.0 ports, 2x serial ports, and 8-bit DIO. For expansion you get either PCIe x16 or 2x PCIe x8, as well as a choice of 8x PCIe x1, 2x PCIe x4, or 4x PCIe x2.

The CPU-162-22 is further equipped with LPC, I2C, SMBus interfaces, as well as an RTC, watchdog, and factory optional TPM. The module supports 12V or 5V input in ATX mode or 12V only in AT mode.

Other Skylake EQ-series COM Express Basic Type 6 modules include Seco’s COMe-B09-BT6.

CPU-161-17

The Compact CPU-161-17 module supplies dual-core U-series Skylake CPUs with 15W TDPs and integrated I/O circuitry. Options include the 2.0GHz Celeron 3955U, the 2.4GHz/3.4GHz Core i5 6300U, and the 2.6GHz/3.4GHz Core i7 6600U.

The CPU-161-17 supports up to 16GB DDR4-1600 RAM via dual sockets. You get 2x SATA 3.0 interfaces on the Celeron model, or 3x SATA on the Core models, with only the latter supporting RAID 0/1/5. There’s also a GbE controller, but only the Core models offer iAMT support.

Triple independent displays are supported via VGA, LVDS, and DDI interfaces, with the same resolutions found on the Basic CPU-162-22 module. The CPU-161-17 supports 4x USB 3.0 ports, 8x USB 2.0 ports, 2x serial ports, HD audio, and 8-bit DIO. For expansion, you get up to 5x PCIe devices and 8x lanes available in various configurations.

The CPU-161-17 is further equipped with LPC, I2C, SMBus interfaces, as well as an RTC, watchdog, and factory optional TPM. The module supports 12V or 5V input in ATX mode or 12V only in AT mode.

Other Skylake U-series series COM Express Compact Type 6 modules include Kontron’s COMe-cSL6.
