Linux kiosk distro adds Raspberry Pi 4 support

Linutop’s Linux-based, kiosk-oriented Linutop OS can now run on the Raspberry Pi 4. Linutop also sells mini-PCs based on the Raspberry Pi 2 and 3 and the UP Squared.

Seco spins 3.5-inch Ryzen Embedded SBC plus a managed Linux distro

Seco unveiled a Linux-ready, 3.5-inch “SBC-C90” with a Ryzen V1000 or R1000, 2x GbE, and 4x DP++ ports. It also launched a Yocto-based Edgehog OS with containers, OTA updates, and remote management that runs on an upcoming SoloX based SBC-C23.

Storyboard cranks up GUIs for iWave’s i.MX8 boards

Wind River Linux adds CI/CD support with more frequent releases

Linux-based ML kit for AWS combines i.MX8 QuadMax with an industrial camera

Toradex has launched a $490 “Apalis AI Vision Starter Kit” that runs Torizon Linux and an optimized ML stack with AWS IoT Greengrass on its i.MX8 QuadMax based Apalis iMX8 module. The kit includes Toradex’s Ixora Carrier Board and an Allied Vision Alvium 1500 CSI2 camera.

Pumpkin SBCs feature new MediaTek SoCs and mainline Linux/Android SDK

MediaTek has launched two “Pumpkin i300 EVK” SBCs with a quad -A35 MediaTek i300 and unveiled a Pumpkin i500 EVK based on the octa-core -A73/-A53 i500. The SBCs feature a BayLibre-developed, MediaTek Rich IoT SDK v20.0 with Yocto and Android 10.

Automotive Grade Linux nabs Subaru and Wind River teams with Baidu on driverless cars

Subaru will use Automotive Grade Linux in its 2020 Subaru Outback and Legacy cars. Meanwhile, Wind River revealed a partnership with Baidu to develop an AUTOSAR solution based on Wind River Linux and VxWorks for Baidu’s Apollo autonomous car platform.

Tech heavyweights join Zigbee in launching open source smart home consortium

Amazon, Apple, Google, and the Zigbee Alliance have formed a “Connected Home over IP” group to develop an open source smart home connectivity standard. Meanwhile Silicon Labs plans to relaunch its Z-Wave spec as a “ratified, multi-source wireless standard” open to all silicon and stack vendors for development.

Linux-on-Jetson SDR board gets major SW upgrade and an enclosure

Deepwave Digital’s v0.2 release of the Ubuntu-based AirStack for its Nvidia TX2 and Artix-7 equipped AIR-T SDR board adds variable sample rate, phase locking for MIMO, easier updates, and support for Jetpack 4.2.2, Docker, and the TX2i. There’s also an optional AirPack version and a new enclosure.

Eclipse Foundation launches Edge Native Working Group

The Eclipse Foundation announced an “Edge Native Working Group” to develop open source software for edge computing, starting with its Eclipse ioFog and Eclipse fog05 projects. Members include Adlink, Bosch, Edgeworx, Eurotech, Huawei, Intel, Kynetics, and Siemens.

Andes’ RISC-V SoC debuts with AI-ready VPU as Microchip opens access to its PolarFire SoC

[Updated: Dec. 11] — Andes unveiled a Linux-ready, RISC-V-based “AndesCore 27-series” CPU core that features a VPU for AI applications. In other RISC-V on Linux news, Microchip opened early access to its FPGA-enabled PolarFire SoC and Hex Five announced MultiZone Security for Linux.
