Libcamera successor to V4L2 hopes to ease embedded Linux camera headaches

At ELC Europe, Linux kernel developer Laurent Pinchart unveiled a follow-on to the V4L2 stack for embedded cameras. The open source “libcamera” eases the burden on userspace developers, offers improved per-frame and 3A controls, and sandboxes proprietary camera code.

Intel updates embedded toolsuite — but says it’s scaling back its IoT effort

Container-based server platform for Linux device management goes open source

Resin.io changed its name to balena and released an open source version of its IoT fleet management platform for Linux devices called openBalena. Targets include the Intel NUC, Jetson TX2, Raspberry Pi, and a new RPi CM3 carrier called the balenaFin.

OpenWrt based distro claimed to be first fully open source bitcoin mining software

Braiins has released an open source, OpenWrt based ASIC bitcoin miner stack called Braiins OS, featuring AsicBoost to reduce power usage. It’s compatible with Antminer and Dragonmint mining rigs and works with Braiins’ Slush Pool mining pool.

Arm’s Mbed Linux OS feeds into Pelion IoT strategy

Arm unveiled an “Mbed Linux OS” distro that mixes Yocto and Mbed code and works with its Pelion IoT Platform. Arm also extended Pelion to support x86 devices that use Intel’s SDO provisioning scheme.
