Aaeon’s “COM-APLC6” is a COM Express Compact Type 6 module with an Apollo Lake SoC and 2x SATA, 3x PCIe, 10x USB, 2x MIPI-CSI, and dual display support.

After announcing Intel Apollo Lake based products including a 3.5-inch single board computer (GENE-APL5), a thin Mini-ITX SBC (EMB-APL1), and a Pico-ITX SBC (PICO-APL1), Aaeon has now unveiled its first computer-on-module based on the SoC family. The 95 x 95mm COM-APLC6 joins other Apollo Lake COM Express Compact Type 6 modules such as the Advantech SOM-6869, among many others.

While Advantech and some others have supported Celeron and Pentium Apollo Lake models, as well as the three Atom E3900 series, the COM-APLC6 defaults to the quad-core, 1.6GHz Atom x7-E3950 (12W TDP). It appears that the quad-core, 1.6GHz Atom x5-E3940 (9W TDP) and dual-core, 1.1GHz Atom x5-E3930 (6.5W TDP) are also available. No OS support is listed, but Linux was said to be supported on the EMB-APL1, among other boards, and we imagine the same is true here.

The COM-APLC6 supports up to 8GB of DDR3L RAM with ECC via dual SODIMMs. The module can drive two displays simultaneously via up to 2x DDI, VGA, and dual-channel 18/24-bit LVDS or eDP interfaces.

A GbE port is available with Wake on LAN, and there are 3x PCIe x1 expansion slots, as well as LPC and SMBus expansion. The module supports 2x USB 3.0 and 6x USB 2.0, as well as dual SATA III and dual serial interfaces. You also get HD audio, 8-bit GPIO, 2x MIPI-CSI interfaces, and a watchdog.

The 12V module supports 0 to 60°C temperatures. The block diagram suggests that a microSD slot is optional. Other options include a heat spreader, a CPU cooler, and a carrier board.
